PHILIP ANSELMO's Next Solo Album Will Be 'Very Different'
December 16, 2014Former PANTERA and current DOWN frontman Philip Anselmo will spend some of the downtime from the road in 2015 working on a number of projects, including the follow-up to his 2013 solo album "Walk Through Exits Only".
"It's going to be very different," he tells Yahoo! Music. "I feel like every solo effort should be different. That's a rule in my house under this particular roof. I don't want to regurgitate a damn thing I've done in the past. Maybe I might touch on certain things, and in a lot of ways there's no getting around the voice because my voice is my voice. But you can express different musical influences from generations of music. I can do anything I want with [my solo band] THE ILLEGALS. It's my band."
Although Anselmo hasn't yet commenced work on his next solo CD, he tells Yahoo! Music that he's got plenty of material to pore through and consider using. "I'm sitting on top of so much music that I have never put out there," he says. "Sometimes I wonder if I should just put this shit out as is or if I should re-record it and try to refine it and fit in in some way within some new band; or maybe even fit it into DOWN. All of that goes through my head. But I'm really looking forward to revising some of this stuff."
"Walk Through Exits Only" sold around 8,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 35 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was produced by Anselmo and Michael Thompson, and recorded over a couple of years at Philip's New Orleans studio, Nodferatu's Lair.
Anselmo recently toured Europe with his THE ILLEGALS — guitarist Marzi Montazeri (ex-SUPERJOINT RITUAL),drummer José Manuel Gonzales (WARBEAST) and bassist Steve Taylor.
